Lt Col Andy Waller runs the 2010 London Marathon for KET
May 2010

Lt Col Andy Waller |
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who sponsored me in running the London Marathon this year. I was delighted to finish in 3 hours 55 minutes and 4 seconds and to raise £1761.20 for the Kohima Educational Trust.
Running my first marathon was a most enjoyable challenge and the day itself was one never to forget. The generosity of spirit of the 37,000 runners and the unbelievable support from the thousands who lined the entire course, made for a day of celebration that uniquely transforms our Capital.
The contrast between the lonely runs in the January snow along the Firth of Forth, to running down the Mall in the sunshine heightened the sense of achievement and satisfaction.
Slightly to my own surprise, I have entered the Loch Ness Marathon later this year and applied again for next year’s London Marathon!
I was also delighted to be able to attend the Kohima Memorial service at York Minster, only two days after the marathon to meet surviving veterans, their families and supporters of the KET. It was a most enjoyable occasion and I greatly enjoyed chatting to a good number of those attending.
Finally, I would like to thank Hugh and Anne Young for their support and assistance in helping me to raise money for such a worthy cause.
