Phil Moore-Hemsley, whose father was killed at Kohima, has recently retired from a career in airline management.

Phil Moore-Hemsley’s early years were spent in Scotland at the Queen Victoria School (QVS), Dunblane, Perthshire. The school is for the sons (and now the daughters) of men and women killed in the First and Second World Wars. QVS is a unique organisation – a Ministry of Defence establishment which exists to support members of the armed services who either are Scots or have served in Scotland.

After an apprenticeship in the electro/mechanical industry at the beginning of the computer revolution – directly associated to the print trade – Phil changed career in his thirties and moved into the airline industry. Working for Trans World Airlines (TWA) and American Airlines in New York, Los Angeles and Dallas, but based at London Heathrow Airport T3, he covered VIP handling, arrivals and departures.

Phil continued in the airline business until 1995 when he concluded his 25-year career to relax in Cornwall with his wife Julie. He is excited by the challenge of working to fulfil the aims of the Trust.
