Kohima Commemoration Service:  York Minster, Thursday 6 July  2023 11.00am.

We will be gathering once again in Dean’s Garden to commemorate the battle of Kohima on Thursday 6^th July at 11.00am.

For those of you who have not attended before, it is a marvellous occasion when families and friends gather in front of the 2^nd Division memorial, a replica of the one that stands in Kohima, to remember those ‘who did not come home’ and to meet other like-minded people whose fathers and grandfathers were involved in the Burma Campaign. We are honoured to be hosted by the Chapter of York who will conduct the service and we are always treated to a wonderful military band and pipes.

We are delighted to welcome this year the Bishop to the Armed Forces, Bishop Hugh Nelson, who will give the Address .

The service is followed by a two-course lunch in Imphal Barracks after which the Kohima Museum will be open for all to visit. Parking is provided in the barracks where coaches will take us to and from the Minster.

An Audience with Dr Robert Lyman, York University, Wednesday 5 July 2023. 6.30pm

The Kohima Educational Trust also invite you to an evening’s entertainment the night before the service, Wednesday 5th July, when Dr Robert Lyman will be talking about his new book, The Reconquest of Burma. Robert will be well-known to all those of you who have been watching our series of webinars and it will be a pleasure once again to hear him speak in person. The talk will be followed by drinks and canapes and a chance to mingle and to obtain your copy of The Reconquest of Burma signed by the author.
