KET at Benenden School Arts Festival June 2022

KET at Benenden School Arts Festival June 2022

The Trust was delighted to be invited to attend Benenden School Arts Festival. Our attendence had been arranged by the family of one of our Trustees for which we are extremely grateful.  It was a beautiful June day with the sun shining brightly as we arrived to set up the KET stall.

Our stall was filled with beautiful handmade Naga items of clothing, jewellery and bags as well as books on the battle of Kohima.  The visitors to the Arts Festival were generous enough to support us by purchasing some lovely items, and one kind visitor even donated a brand new scholarship which we will award next year.

We would like to thank Benenden school for their support and for this opportunity to tell more people about our work in Nagaland. We would also like to thank all our friends and supporters, and in particular Sophie and Bella Barclay for their unstinting support, and to all the girls who helped out on the day - what a fantastic event!

To see the full range of items handmade in Naga homes, as well as books about the Battle of Kohima, please visit our online shop.

Fundraising by Benenden

We are delighted and very grateful to hear that a team from Hemsted House (pictured below) at Benenden School are raising money for KET!  The school magazine has shared this update:

Pupil Becomes First of The Hemsted Hundred

Twenty-seven Hemsted staff and students have pledged to join The Hemsted Hundred this term.

This means running 100km each over the course of the term in order to raise money for the Kohima Educational Trust. They have recently celebrated their first House member having completed the feat.

The aim is to raise £750, which will sponsor two students through three years of education. The students will be from Nagaland, a part of North East India that bravely helped the British troops in holding off the Japanese advance during the Second World War.

The town of Kohima was decimated during the war and in the cemetery, there is carved the Kohima Epitaph:

When you go home,

Tell them of us and say,

For your tomorrow,

We gave our today.

Many thanks to Bella Barclay, daughter of our trustee Angus, for helping set this up and huge thanks to the team at Benenden School.  We wish you the very best of luck completing the challenges you have set yourselves!
