Kohima Commemoration York 6th & 7th July 2022

Kohima Commemoration Events - 6th and 7th July 2022

Wednesday 6th July 2022 6.30pm - Evening event: "A War of Empires" - in conversation with Dr Robert Lyman at the Bowland Auditorium, York University

The Kohima Educational Trust are hosting an evening’s entertainment on Wednesday 6th July, when Dr Robert Lyman will be in conversation with Professor Ronald Clayton, discussing Dr Lyman’s new book A War of Empires. Robert will be well-known to all those of you who have been watching our series of webinars and it will be a pleasure to hear him speak in person. The talk will be followed by drinks and canapes and a chance to mingle and to obtain your copy of A War of Empires signed by the author.

Thursday 7th July 2022 11.00am - Kohima Commemoration Service at Dean's Park, York Minster

We look forward to the moment when we can once again all come together and meet for our annual service of commemoration in Dean’s Park at York Minster followed by lunch in Imphal Barracks.

For those of you who have not attended before, it is a marvellous occasion when families and friends gather in Dean’s Park in front of the 2nd Division memorial, a replica of the one that stands in Kohima, to remember those ‘who did not come home’ and to meet other like-minded people whose fathers and grandfathers were involved in the Burma Campaign. We are honoured to be hosted by the Chapter of York who will conduct the service and we are always treated to a wonderful military band and pipes.

The service is followed by a two-course lunch in Imphal Barracks after which the Kohima Museum will be open for all to visit. Parking is provided in the barracks where coaches will be arranged to take us to and from the Minster.  Everyone is welcome on what is always an enjoyable occasion and a marvellous opportunity to make new friends and to renew old acquaintances.
