Kohima 80^th Anniversary Commemoration Service,

York Minster, Thursday 4th July 2024 11.00am

We will be gathering once again in Dean’s Garden to commemorate the battle of Kohima on Thursday 4^th July at 11.00am.

For those of you who have not attended before, it is a marvellous occasion when families and friends gather in front of the 2^nd Division memorial, a replica of the one that stands in Kohima, to remember those ‘who did not come home’ and to meet other like-minded people whose fathers and grandfathers were involved in the Burma Campaign. We are honoured to be hosted by the Dean who will conduct the service and we are always treated to a wonderful military band and pipes.

We are delighted to welcome this year the Venerable Dr (Air Vice-Marshal) Giles Legood, Chaplain-in-Chief and Archdeacon for the RAF, who will give the Address.

The service is followed by a two-course lunch in Imphal Barracks after which the Kohima Museum will be open for all to visit. Parking is provided in the barracks where coaches will take us to and from the Minster. There will be coffee served at the barracks from 9.00am before boarding the coaches at 10am. We are as always extremely grateful to 2^nd Signal Regiment for making these arrangements possible.

We have done our best to keep the lunch price in line with previous years but due to the huge increase in the cost of coach hire it has been necessary to add a cost of £5 per person should you wish to park at the barracks and take the coach to the minster and back.

80^th Anniversary Gala Dinner at the Merchant Adventurers’ Hall, York, Wednesday 3^rd July 2024 18.30 for 19.00

The Kohima Educational Trust alongside 2^nd Signal Regiment take great pleasure also inviting you to a special anniversary Gala dinner to commemorate the 80^th Anniversary of the battle of Kohima and to celebrate The Kohima Educational Trust turning 21. We are delighted that Lord Dannatt has agreed to be our guest speaker and entertainment will be provided by the Band of the Prince of Wales. This formal event will feature a four course meal in the beautiful surroundings of the Merchant Adventurers’ Hall in the heart of York. Dress will be black tie or equivalent.

Places are restricted for the Gala Dinner on the Wednesday evening so please be advised that tickets will be allocated on a 'first come, first served' basis.

Below is a booking form for the different events over the two days. Please complete this form by the end of May. We will send out your tickets along with more detailed instructions, timings and locations at the beginning of June.
